Body piercing is a type of body art that increases aesthetic value, sexual pleasure, self-expression, and sometimes for spiritual purposes. Originally, body jewellery used was only a pair of circular earrings but when this became a fashion statement, vast amounts of crafted jewellery were developed. Gold, silver, plastics, glass, and titanium are utilized widely. Even natural materials like wood, amber, and fauna are used.

Body piercing can be on the ears, eyebrows, nose, tongue, or belly button. The most popular types of jewellery include labret rings, navel rings, nipple rings, ear barbells, and earlets. Today’s generation is much like the ancient society where extreme multiple piercing in various body parts is common. Right now, youth have brought this trend into mainstream style and its rise in popularity even affected other fashion statements like midriff shirts. These shirts are smaller types of clothing that allow the wearer to sport a belly button ring and be seen by everyone.

There is no doubt that women today are quite fascinated with jewellery but fashion conscious males have also developed an inclination to this. For those who are into body art but are not too keen on the looming pain, there are fake or non-piercing body jewellery that can be used. The pain-free pieces can spice up a person’s look without requiring real holes in the body. However, braver people use genuine body jewellery because they believe that such practice is more vibrant, and a more authentic method of eloquence and clarity.
